Do you want to build a Zcash mining rig? Do you want to know which is the best GPU for Zcash mining? Then hold on to all the questions that will be answered.
Today we are going to build 13 GPU Zcash mining rigs. I will show you all the components you will need to build the Zcash mining rig in 2020.
First of all, we will use some GPU’s, Motherboard that will support 13 GPU’s, Processor, RISERS, PSU, Frame, etc.
I have listed the hardware required down below. Also, I have included Amazon links for you to buy.
So, without due let’s start our Zcash Mining Rig.

13 GPU Zcash Mining Rig Build
So, we are going to build a mining rig that will produce 5600 Sol/s. So, that’s huge.
Today the price of Zcash (ZEC) is $270. Zcash has been now considered as one of the most profitable cryptocurrencies for mining.
Zcash can be easily mined with Nvidia cards. Nvidia cards are better for mining ZEC rather than any other coin.
Our cryptocurrency mining rig will consist of –
1. EVGA GeForce GTX 1070
You will need 13 of them.
EVGA build some good Nvidia Graphics Cards. With one GTX 1070 Nvidia Graphics card you can achieve 430 Sol/s. With 13 GPUs, we can achieve a hash rate of about 5600 Sol/s.
As we are building 13 GPUs, we are going to order 13 GPUs. If you are low on budget, you can always order less and increase as you go. So, be sure to use the same components that I’m going to mention below.
But, Why are we using Nvidia? Why not AMD?
Because Nvidia cards give the best output per watt consumption but, the thing is Nvidia graphics cards are costlier than AMD. Another reason we are using Nvidia Series 10 is that they have higher resell values than the AMD.
If you don’t want to spend much, I will always recommend you to resell graphics cards on Amazon. They are good, and the prices are really low. You will definitely save more money.
Buy NEW GPU Amazon2. PCI-E 16x to 1x Risers
It would help if you haveย RISERS for connecting Graphics cards to the motherboards. RISERS are easy to install with only a snap of a card on RISER on one end connect the other end to the motherboard.
We will need 13 RISERS for our ZEC mining Rig.
Next important thing that you should see that your motherboard is supporting 13 Risers, not or any less. More is better. I have mentioned the motherboard below.
3. Asrock H110 Pro BTC+ 13GPU Mining Motherboard
We are going to use Asrock H110 Pro BTC+; thisย is a very good and strong motherboard. The motherboard supports 13 GPUs’s so you need not worry. In comparison, this is a very cheap and affordable motherboard in the market.
All the miners have been using the Asrock motherboard. So, no questions asked. This motherboard supports DDR4 RAM, which will not affect our efficiency in mining.
Motherboards are the base of your mining rig. You have to make sure that there is much air flowing through and should not excess heat.
4. Patriot Memory Viper Elite Series DDR4 4GB RAM
RAMย is not that important as you might think. You will be losing money if you are investing in 8GB RAM.
So, Asrock H110 Pro BTC+ supports DDR4 RAM, so we are going with DDR4 4GB RAM.
Patriot Memory Viper is quite good, and I’ve personally used it. If you are going with any other RAM, it is OK until it is DDR4.
If you go with 8GB RAM, you will have the same Zcash mining efficiency as with 4GB RAM.
5. Intel 7th Gen Celeron
Now comes the main part of the Zcash mining rig. But, let me tell you it is not that important as you think. We are going to do GPU mining, not CPU mining. So, we are going to use the processor only to power on the mining rig.
Also, we will use Intel 7th Generation Celeron Processor; youย can also use i3 processor.
So, to save more and build a profitable ZEC mining rig build we will go with Intel Celeron. Again don’t invest in i3 or i5 processors.
6. SanDisk SSD PLUS 120GB
You do need storage, but you don’t need HDD. We can use HDD if you need it, but SSD’s are faster in processing. You will conserve much time in processing.
I think SSD is a bit faster and will increase your mining efficiency. SSD’s are a bit expensive, but they are only a few more bucks to invest in comparison to HDD.
By using SSD’,s you will increase processing speed and reduce the transfer time. SSD will only be used to run your OS and mining software.
I prefer SanDisk SSD Plus they are pretty cheap and reliable.
7. Corsair AXi Series, AX1500i, 1500 Watt
You will need 2 of them.
We will use 2 1500 Watt Power Supply Unit as we are going to build 13 GPU cryptocurrency mining rig. We will go with Corsair AX1500i as it provides 1500 Watt.
What we will do is we will run these PSU’s simultaneously. So, there is no kind of buying higher-end PSU.
As per my experience, Corsair and EVGA manufacture the best PSU.
If we figure out that each of our GPU will need 180W of supply, then we will supply (assumption) about 2400W of power to the GPU’s.
The other supply would go to SSD, Motherboard, CPU – This will make up to 200W. On the other end, we are let up with some juice left.
I like to buy a higher power to be on the safe side. Choosing the matching power supply is important, and if you have chosen the wrong one, you have probably burned down your rig.
8. Thermaltake Dual 24-Pin Mining Adapter Cable
Remember, as I said that we are going to run two PSU’s simultaneously. So, to do that, we are going to use an adapter cable. This will connect both PSU and will run the mining rig that we have built.
These adapters are pretty cheap; don’t waste on buying this cable individually – Buy it with the other components.
You can connect the mining rig as shown in below image –
9. ATX Power switch
Do you want to start your motherboard, right? We are not using any CPU cases with a pre-button to turn on and off.
So, we are going to use the ATX power switch. Theseย are small wires with a button attached. These go well directly in the motherboard. You can turn it on with the button. Try to buy this with other components, and you will cut out the shipping charges.
Small but important!!!
I’ve covered every small component that is needed.
10. Mining Rig Open Air Frame
You can always create one yourself to conserve some costs. You can make it work as a project. When you order the products from Amazon, it will take some time to ship. Till the shipping time, you can always put it as a project and create some good mining rig frame.
We are going to use 13 GPU, so you need to create it big. You will make sure that all the components like GPU, Motherboard, 2PSU, etc., fit well.
Most importantly, you are going to make sure that there is enough airflow. If there will be more heat involved, you will probably burn down your Zcash mining rig.
I have listed this mining rig that can hold 14 GPU and will be enough.
*If the following frame isnโt available you can buy this following frame!
11. Linux / Windows
You must have an OS installed on your mining rig. But, it’s harder to choose with this rig. The thing is, Windows is good for mining as you will have a good GUI, and more of them are currently mining on windows.
So, the downside of windows with this mining rig is that the efficiency of all the 13GPU running on windows will cause some problems. Sometimes the windows will not recognize all the 13 GPUs. If you build the same rig with 8 or 6 GPU, then the windows are ok.
There are few guides around the internet where you can achieve all 13 GPU running at once and good.
But, if you want to run this rig efficiently with 13GPU, Linux is what you will use. I will highly recommend going with Linux. There would be no problem in mining with 13GPU, and everything would be fine. You will also cut out some charges by not buying windows.
12. Mining PoolIt would help if you had perfect mining software and also the right mining pool. This is a recent experience of mine.
I was previously using Flypool for mining Zcash. But I don’t know why I was not getting more hash rates.
So, a friend of mine recommended me to use 2Miners Pool. They are still growing, but they are legit, and there are regular payouts of ZEC.
Also, they have low fees.
Conclusion
If you have built Zcash (ZEC) MiningRig as per my instruction, you will be easily mine. With the current rate and profitability and adding electricity cost, you will easily mine $960/month.
And this is huge. So, there is a lesser payout time. You can always increase the no. of GPU.
Low on budget? Start with a lesser number of GPU, then periodically increase them as you earn. For mining, there is much software available.
Not only this, you can always use this mining rig to mine Ethereum, Monero, Bitcoin, etc.
If you want to start mining Ethereum, you can start with one of my easy guides – 6 GPU Nvidia Ethereum Mining Rig โ $2500 Build.
You can always invest in cryptocurrencies. You are starting – you can look in my guide for the best cryptocurrency to invest in.
Total ~ $8610 (Prices Can Change)
You can always buy fewer GPU’s and increase periodically.
Nice Guide!!
I have ordered all the items and they are being shipped. As you said I can make my own Mining Rig frame and I’m working on it.
Thanks !!!
Thank you!!! Happy Mining
Was curious abt the motherboard for this rig, been reading a lot of bad reviews on it. I really want to build a 13 GPU rig over time, got the 8 GPUs on the way now deciding on which mobo. Have either of you had any issues with the risers touching either on the mobo or getting GPU errors from running the rig. Thanks!!
Hello, Yes many of them were curious about this GPU compatibility errors and all. But the thing the rig will work fine until and unless you run your mining rig on Linux. Linux will identify all the GPU attached. I would suggest you using Claymore miner.
hi, there. as with the current price of zcash and its current difficulty. how much in USD should i be making off of each 1070 gpu with your rig specs
What software are you using to mine with?
Hello! Thank you for your reply.
From the beginning of CryptoCurrency mining I have been using Claymore miner it’s pretty basic and supports all the GPUs.
I never had a problem with it.
Hi mate,
great info there..
I have just built a 12 x gtx1070 rig and need help on how tio run linux and what software to use for z cash…
How much electricity does this monster use when using all CPUs?
It does use 2600W of power but talking about electricity. Each card is using nearby of 200W. So, in total it can make up to 2700W to 2800W computing Motherboard and other hardware elements.
And – what noise does it all generate (if you measure with any sound meter in a mobile phone)?
It generates noise as it has 13 GPU’s. So, you will have to keep it somewhere there is no disturbance caused.
I’m aware it generates noise – but how much noise? 50 dB? 60 dB? 70 dB? More?
With Overclocking all the GPU it can come across 70DB or more!!
I would like to build this using GTX 1080ti, would that work? also, could i get some instructions for after the build? thank you
Yes you can build it using 1080ti. You are always open to get my help. Contact me – [email protected]
So is this for mining ZEC or ZER?
ZEC (Zcash)
Hi, what Linux OS do you recommend and what program/scipt for minning zcash?
Hey Ralph!
Ubuntu as OS. And EWBF Miner for mining Zcash with Flypool.
Thanks. You recommended EVGA for card, why? Is this brand better than zotac or asus?
EVGA has the good build quality and has good support. But either way, I have been using MSI, EVGA & Zotac once. All of them are good. All of them will give the same hashrates.
Good to know, sometimes hard to get EVGA. Do you making any OS optimization for mining or you use just fresh system?
I’m curious about drivers as well, which do you recommend for GTX 1070?
Hmm, No I don’t do any OS optimisation. Fresh is what I do.
Ahhh, Drivers!! I go with the supplied stock drivers with the card.
hi Soham,
great tutorial, plenty of interesting tips, many thanks.
thanks for clarifying that you think that this king of mobo is gonna work with 13 GPU GTX1080TI11gb too: that’s a great tip. The producer (on their own website) advise an hybrid solution Nvidia/AMD but I reckon it’s due to they willingness to give a straightforward tip to windows users.
I’ll give it a try with ethOS, guess could be very good to mine BTG too if that turns out to be profitable (Equihash too).
cheers!
Nice tutorial, however the ATX power switch isn’t necessary if you have the H110 BTC+ motherboard. This board has an on/off and reset button attached to it.
how much money i ll make if i build one of this?
Hi Soham, excellent guide! I am wondering if you are accounting expenses in the total profits? Is power consumption deducted from your total profits on your guides or how much is power costing/month with this build?
Most of the times I put on the profit !!! deducting the expenses!! Power consumptions can differ from place to place. Over here at my place, it is hardly $50 per month for this rig!!
Hello, great guide!
I have built a system with 12 GPUs running fine (12 1070s), when I add the 13th GPU the system goes into a kernal panic as its trying to load the miner. I’ m currently using SMOS on Linus. The power supply is a 3000W power supply. I’ve checked all the risers as well. Do you have any ideas I can try?
Thanks!
J
Ok, got it!
Tell me whether you are using USB or SSD? if so what are their memory?
Hi Soham,
I’m running it off of a USB, originally a 16gb 2.0 then switched to a 32gb 3.0 USB stick and it still goes into a kernel panic!
Thanks!
Did you connect power cables from your PSU to the three extra power connectors on the board?
I just realized there was a sata connecter! I’ll be able to adjust the rig next week (im remote currently). I bet that was the issue. Thank you!
You are welcome!!! Glad I was happy to help you out!
Best Site Bro Keep It Up ……
Hey,
Instead of one GPU mining mother board, can I use multiple RPI3s? and then sync them all to work in unison?
Hello Soham,
do you think you can share with us, since you build the rig month by month how much the rig has profit? just to have an idea with the price of BTC going up and down doesn’t have to be accurate just and idea.
Thanks for your help
is this still a very profitable future proof rig
GTX 1070 is still a great GPU. But if you can upgrade the GPU to RTX 2060 Super/ RTX 2070 you’ll be more than happy being it future proof.
